Convicted racist and former Durban real estate agent, Vicki Momberg was granted bail of R2‚000 by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Momberg’s release comes after a pending appeal against her conviction and sentence. The state did not appeal her release as they say she was due for parole anyway.
During Momberg’s bail hearing, prosecutor Yusuf Baba said he had already discussed the matter with Momberg’s lawyer‚ Kingdom Onah‚ and they had agreed that it was pointless to oppose bail because Momberg had already served four months of her two-year sentence‚ which would mean she would soon be liable to apply for parole.
Momberg was caught on camera abusing the k-word at Johannesburg law enforcement officers after allegedly falling victim of a smash-and-grab incident. Momberg hurled the k-word more than 48 times.
Momberg filed for leave to appeal alleging that the video evidence which was presented before the court had been tampered with.
The matter has been postponed until November 2018.
