Insurance and medical giant Discovery spends R23 million per month for its futuristic head office in Sandton, according to a Netwerk24 report.
When approached for comment, Discovery confirmed the building cost about R280m in the financial year to end-June.
The futuristic building is the largest commercial office building in South Africa targeting a 5-Star Green Star SA rating and it extends the boundaries of an energy efficient, environment- and occupant-friendly building.
The developers, Growthpoint who spent just over R3 billion on the building, confirmed that Discovery signed a 15-year occupancy lease. The company added that the building will not be transferred to Discovery and will remain the property of the landlords at the end of the lease.
The building features a gym, running track, yoga decks, and multipurpose courts on the landscaped roof, all in line with the insurer’s Vitality programme that advocates an active lifestyle.
