A Durban hijacker has died hours after he was accidentally shot in the stomach by his accomplice.
Spokesman for Reaction Unit South Africa, Prem Balram told TimesLIVE about the botched hijacking that took place in Ottawa north of Durban.
“Two Pakistani nationals were accosted by two suspects while they were in a car at a robot. One suspect was armed with a gun while his accomplice was in possession of a knife‚”
A scuffle broke out after the driver and passenger refused to exit the vehicle.
“A victim was stabbed in the hand as they scuffled. The second suspect fired four shots at the victim. One bullet struck the victim on the foot while a second bullet struck the suspect’s accomplice in the abdomen.”
The driver and passenger were then forced out of the car, the two hijackers then sped off in the vehicle, the one who was shot was seen bleeding profusely. The hijacked bakkie was later found after being abandoned with R100 000 inside.
The hijacker that was wounded had attempted to recover in a home in a nearby complex, he told the homeowner that he had been the victim of a hijacking.
SAPS confirmed that the hijacker was rushed to hospital where he later died.
